"He was not on the list of graduates. Perhaps he studied here, but his name is not on the list of graduates," said an EPFL spokeswoman, confirming an article in the Swiss newspaper 24 Heures. She declined any further comments.
The newspaper said that Celestin held a Swiss residence permit between 1983 and 1986 issued by the canton of Vaud. He later had a tourist visa of five days in 2007.
A Lausanne-based Haitian who knew Celestin claimed the presidential candidate "liked partying."
"He spent most of his time at the Association of Antilles Workers in Switzerland where he loved playing DJ," the Haitian told 24 Heures.
Celestin, 48, was picked by outgoing President Rene Preval as the INITE party's candidate in Sunday's elections.
He is engaged to Preval's daughter, and is the founder and executive director of the government's road-building outfit.
Critics have charged that his candidacy amounts to nepotism.
